Part -3
The tranquilizer darts, useless against the genetically modified animals, lay scattered on the ground. The zoo security officers, their faces etched with fear and frustration, realized the full extent of the nightmare. The animals' immune systems, altered by the experimental feed, had rendered them impervious to sedation.
While the elephants and giraffes rampaged, a sliver of hope remained: the other animals were still confined to their cages. However, the situation was rapidly deteriorating. The zoo management, in a desperate attempt to contain the threat, authorized the use of lethal force. Rifles and shotguns were distributed among the security personnel, the order given: eliminate the elephants and giraffes.
By then, the animals had already claimed fifty lives, the zoo grounds now a gruesome tableau of carnage. Valentine, amidst the chaos, made a daring decision. Recognizing the relative safety of the now-empty elephant enclosure, she guided a group of twenty to thirty people inside, disconnecting the sliding bridge to create a makeshift sanctuary.
Outside, the security officers opened fire. The bullets, however, proved ineffective. The animals' skin, toughened by genetic modifications, acted like a natural armor, deflecting the projectiles. The weapons, intended for normal animals, were useless against these genetically enhanced beasts.
The situation escalated. The elephants and giraffes, their rage fueled by the failed attempts to subdue them, intensified their destructive spree. In a chaotic twist, they accidentally breached the wild dog enclosure. Ironically, the release of the wild dogs provided a temporary distraction. The dogs, driven by their predatory instincts, focused their attention on the elephants and giraffes, momentarily diverting their attention from the humans.
Valentine, seizing the opportunity, ventured out of the elephant enclosure, attempting to rescue more survivors. However, the wild dogs, unable to inflict significant damage on the elephants and giraffes, soon turned their attention to the vulnerable humans.
A pack of twenty wild dogs descended upon a portly man, their target secured. The first dog bit into his leg, crippling him. The others joined in, their savage instincts taking over. The man's screams echoed through the zoo, a horrifying symphony of pain and terror. The onlookers, paralyzed by fear, could only watch in helpless horror.
As time wore on, a sense of despair settled over the trapped survivors. Attempts to contact the outside world failed. The zoo's security system, in its activation, had triggered a signal jammer, cutting off all communication. They were isolated, trapped, and at the mercy of the rampaging animals.
Hopeless, the survivors turned to prayer, their voices a desperate plea for divine intervention. The zoo, once a symbol of human mastery over nature, had become a testament to the devastating consequences of unchecked ambition.
To be continue………….
